River Goyt West

Stockport, Hazel Grove

Paths through rolling countryside, near river, never beside

About

It’s part of ‘The Goyt Valley Way’ and there are signposts now and then. Looses the river near the Peak Forest Canal, and there is a no‐solution‐offered 80 foot drop at Brabyn’s Park. Easy to follow. Jumbled underfoot, some road, repeated steps and mud. Away from the buildings is, for Manchester, mostly quiet. Out of Stockport, rolling downs, not Lancashire at all. Except Stockport, which is an amusing urban adventure, this is everywhere pleasant, Chadlock Chapel well worth a visit itself… maybe not the canal, but that tunnel leads to Marple Aqueduct.
