Bridgewater Canal
Worsley, Manchester, Stretford
Canal from Worsley to the city centre
About
WARNING: Waters End–Castlefield called ungood. WARNING: Unless by canal, Worsely called ungood. Maintained and recent‐upgraded, so signposted everywhere. The canal is useful paths. The Bridgewater was designed flat, and the upgrade surfaced as officially fit for bicycles and, practically, wheelchairs—maybe hard on the hips. Worsley–Water’s End is mostly field and estate, Water’s End–Castlefield is under industrial estate but, as the underside of a city, gripping. 8 miles is nothing to the 150 miles of the Canal du Midi, but this was the near‐first canal built as industrial tool—the unofficial ruins of Castlefield Basin are Manchester’s Babylon.
