River Tame North

Oldham, Stalybridge

River into Pennines through villages under steep hills

About

Official paths, waymarked as the ‘Tame Valley Way’, only mapped by Ordnance Survey, only about 1/3 marked. Several extra paths marked to walk from river source. Riverside, or near, except when forced away by industry, roads and the narrow valley. Tricky navigation near Denshaw. Varied underfoot, ex‐railways and towpaths Stalybridge to Uppermill—Denshaw end is back alleys, field and moor. Narrow river valley, like you wouldn’t expect of Manchester. Outstanding walking everywhere, every village worth visiting. Alternative route avoids roads for a historic railway line.
