Outwood Trail
Ex‐railway line with surfaced path through trees
About
Officially the Outwood Trail in Outwood Country Park, part of the Irwell Sculputre Trail. Near‐zero route marks. The map here follows further with what was the Manchester, Bury and Rossendale Railway (excludes Ratcliffe–Bury, now part of the Manchester tram system). The Clifton end, with it’s pretty bridge, is an unnavigable industrial estate—bikes can cycle round, for walkers annoyance—and we’ve added a way through Radcliffe (nowt like a challenge). No navigation difficulties. Underfoot is rubble/soil or tarmac. Excepting the M60, quiet. Most is in railway cutting through wild trees and undergrowth. Path between two useful places, some history, three bridges (but none viewable) and a few sculptures… used heavily by horses, bikes and run
