Fallowfield Loop
Withington, Gorton
Walk/bicycle path along disused rail‐line
About
Ex‐railway repurposed as urban footway, well marked. As ex‐railway, passes through dense Manchester suburbs. The Fairfield branch dies a few hundred feet short. Almost all wide tarmac. Fairly quiet from outside, but the path can be busy with walkers and cyclists. Almost all in a shallow cutting, overgrown with urban bush, aside from an elevated section over estate near Gorton. A massive success for those who though of it and built it, the loop is all reasonable and an important local resource; sadly, there is a move to light the loop (if that happens, this entry will be re‐assessed) but, for now, this is a way for non‐drivers to move across key areas of the city.
