Edgar Wood Walk
Find work by Edgar Wood
About
There are official ‘Edgar Wood’ walks, this path is an original— buildings by Edgar Wood are mostly well‐marked with plaques. Best walked clockwise, this walk covers as many buildings as possible in Middleton Centre. Includes two busy roads, cut back as much as possible—and a steep, short climb. Mostly pavement aside from short park walks. Even on a quiet day, outstandingly noisy. Much industry and estate. Still, you get to follow a treasure map of Edgar Wood buildings, several famous ones, see suspected Edgar Wood work (green squares), and other notable sites—“Olde Boars Head”, claimed oldest working pub in England; Samuel Bamford’s pub, rescued from demolition by Edgar Wood; Samuel Bamford memorial; “Assheton Arms”, where Bamford was held after arrest.
